Corner infielder/pitcher Ryan Murphy is leaving L&D AMSTERDAM for the fellow Dutch Hoofdklasse club PIONIERS. The 27-year-old was voted Most Valuable Player of the Holland Series one week ago, where he led the PIRATES to a surprising sweep in the championship series over CORENDON KINHEIM.
Murphy batted .309 with six double and two triples during the regular season. He scored 17 runs and drove in 18. He manned third base in 23 games, while being on first in nine. In 16 games on the mound (twelve starts), the right-hander had an ERA of 3.89 with 42 strikeouts (16 walks) in 81 innings pitched. He posted a 5-5 record with three saves. He also started the decisive third game of the Holland Series, picking up the win after six innings of two-hit ball. 2009 with KONICA MINOLTA is going to be his third year in Holland. The Canadian played for the MEDIA MONKS RCH in 2007.
The PIONIERS also reinforce their roster with pitcher Shane Gnade, who is coming from the second division club ALMERE’90 and is currently playing in the Liga Paralela in Venezuela for the ORKAS BBC.
