NETTUNO got a bit of revenge for the lost seven-game Italian Series and beat SAN MARINO 3-2 to pick up the first ever European Cup Final Four title. DANESI had reached the final through a win against GROSSETO on Saturday. The fresh-crowned Italian champion had defeated the FC BARCELONA in the semi-final.
NETTUNO rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to overcome a 1-2 deficit and to seal the victory. Luis Ugueto and Juan Camilo reached through walks with one out. Giuseppe Mazzanti flied out, before Ramon Tavarez drove both runners in with a two-run double to center field.
T&A had taken the lead in the seventh on David Sheldon’s RBI single. Both teams had scored in the fourth. SAN MARINO via a RBI single by Simone Albanese, DANESI through a RBI single by Vincent Parisi.
Victor Arias (NET) struck out seven in his 6 1/3 innings for NETTUNO. He allowed seven hits, two runs and five walks. Carlos Pezzullo (NET) relieved him and picked up the win. Giovanni Carrara (NET) closed it out for the save. Tiago Da Silva (SMA) gave up one run on five hits and two base on balls in seven innings. He punched out six. Luca Martignoni (SMA) blew the lead and took the loss.
