The local organizers announced on Monday morning that the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) has awarded one of next year’s two B-Level European Championship Qualifiers to Zurich, Switzerland. Games will be played at the Heerenschuerli, which was opened in 2010. The tournament will be played from July 22 to 28, 2013.
Following the restructuring of the European teams, Great Britain, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Austria, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, Ireland, Belarus and Bulgaria are qualified for play at a B-Level Qualifier. 6 of the 12 teams will compete in Zurich. The winner will advance to the 2014 European Championship, which will be hosted in the Czech Republic.
According to the local organizers the ballpark in Zurich will host a capacity of about 800 for the tournament. All-event tickets will go on sale in December, while day passes will follow in February. Games are scheduled to be played at 10.30am, 2.30pm and 6.30pm CET each day during the preliminary phase. The best-of-three final is set to commence at 1pm CET on the Saturday.
