Debutant Germany opened the 2011 World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Thursday with a 3-5 loss against Taiwan. The Asian team used a four-run rally in the top of the fourth to erase a 1-3 deficit. Afterwards reliever Chun Lin Kuo (W) shut down the German offense, allowing just three hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings to close out the game. He struck out ten. Kuan Wei Yang went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI to lead the Taiwanese attack. Sascha Lutz, Jendrick Speer and Cedric Bassel scored the German runs. Philipp Hoffschild (L) got the start, issuing nine hits, five runs and three bb in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Dominik Hartinger and Moritz Sckaer also pitched in the game. The match started with a 30-minute delay due to rain.
Netherlands – Curacao 6-0

The hosting Dutch team had a perfect start into the 2011 World Port Tournament. They shut out Curacao 6-0 on Thursday evening. Rob Cordemans (W) cruised through seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven. Reliever Orlando Yntema pitched in and out of a bases loaded situation in the top of the ninth to close it out. At the plate the Netherlands took the lead in the fourth on a RBI triple by Vince Rooi and the following RBI single by Raily Legito. They added four more runs in the sixth. Shaldimar Daantji had the big hit during the rally with a two-run single. Jonathan Balentina (L) issued four hits, two runs and four bb in 3 1/3 innings.
