Manager Mauro Mazzotti traveled to Venezuela to recruit players for the Spanish national team at the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He talked to Rafael Alvarez, Robert Coello and Richard Castillo among others. In an interview he revealed as well that Major Leaguers Raul Ibanez and Jon Jay are in consideration to play for Spain in the WBC. However Ibanez is currently looking for a new team, which could deny his participation. Mexico could also be a source for Team Spain at the WBC. Iker Franco and Jorge Campillo would be candidates. Spain is going to face Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in the first round of the World Baseball Classic. Games in San Juan start on March 7.
