The Pulheim Gophers have avoided relegation in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga. They overcame a 0-1 deficit in the best-of-three relegation/promotion series against the SCC Berlin Challengers this weekend and secured their spot in next year’s campaign at the highest level in German Baseball.
On Saturday Pulheim blew a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth, tied the contest with two outs on a wild pitch in the ninth and scored seven runs in the tenth en route to a 15-8 victory against Berlin. Game three was supposed to follow immediately. But due to lack of light the game was suspended in the third inning with the Gophers already up again by three runs. The match was resumed on Sunday morning and Pulheim continued to score at will. They built up a 9-0 lead through five innings on their way to a 14-3 win in seven innings.
