The BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE beat the TORNADOS on Saturday evening by a score of 5-1 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series for the German Baseball-Bundesliga championship. They now only need one more win today to clinch their first national title after two unsuccessful tries in 2006 and 2007.
After a scoreless first REGENSBURG got on the board in the second through a two-run homerun by Daniel Husband. Two frames later they added two more runs via a RBI single by Ludwig Glaser and a wild pitch, which led Husband to score from third. Donald Lutz drove in a fifth run in the fifth with a RBI double. MANNHEIM only got a run in the seventh, when Chris Falls was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A strikeout against Jens Heymer ended the rally.
Philipp Hoffschild started and delivered another gem during the 2008 playoffs. He pitched the complete nine innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk. He struck out ten. Paul Waterman took the loss. He gave up three hits, four runs (3 ER) and two base on balls in four innings.
