At the end of May Curacao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam met for a three-game series in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Game two of the series had to be suspended in the fourth inning after a benches clearing and a brawl (Video), which happened after a hit by pitch and a hard slide at second base.
Due to the bye week last weekend because of the European Champions Cup, where the two teams were participating, the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) had the time to discuss potential suspensions, which were announced shortly before play resumes in the Hoofdklasse this Thursday.
The heftiest suspension was handed out to Rien Vernooij of Curacao Neptunus. The former Minor Leaguer got banned until July 1, 2017 for his actions. However his club already announced that they would appeal the decision.
Additionally Gilmer Lampe got suspended for ten games, Michael Duursma and Linoy Croes (all three L&D Amsterdam) for four games apiece, Raily Legito and Dwayne Kemp (both Curacao Neptunus) for three games each.
The suspended game will be replayed in its entirety on June 14.
