The 2012 Swedish champion Karlskoga Bats has signed Canadian RHP Shawn Hetherington. Shawn was a college standout at University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in the NAIA. He holds both the all time and single season saves records at the UBC. He was 5-5 with 21 saves and an 2.64 ERA to go along with 61 K’s and only 27 walks with 102 1/3 Innings pithed. He was a 1 time all NAIA pitcher and 3 time NAIA all conference pitcher as well as Canadian athlete of the week in his junior year. He also played for Canada in the World University Game in 2009 and 2010. After he college he signed with the Calgary Vipers of the North American Baseball league where he pitched 21 2/3 innings while striking out 17 and walking only 4. He spent last season in Australia where he played for the Reds of the South Australian League. In Australia he won the strike-out title with 80 K’s. Shawn throws a hard sinking fastball, a split-fingered change up, and a curveball and have the ability to play in the field and help the team out on offence as well when he doesn’t pitch. Shawn will replace US/UK-pitcher Spencer Kreisberg who will spend the summer in USA after his successful season with the Bats.
