The Italian Baseball League (IBL) will be played with eight teams in 2014, split into two groups during the first round. The new format was announced this weekend during the Gala dei Diamanti in Parma. Bologna, Godo, Mastiff (Grosseto), Nettuno, Novara, Parma, Rimini and San Marino have confirmed their participation. Ronchi dei Legionari and Palfinger Reggio Emilia decided not to play in the IBL next year.
The two divisions are going to play a double round robin during the first phase with two games per week and lasts ten weeks. In the second phase the top two teams from each phase move up to another round robin, with three games per week for six additional weeks. Afterwards the top two teams play the best-of-seven Italian Series.
The 2014 season starts on April 4. There will be a break for the European Cup in June and the annual All Star weekend, which has been scheduled for July 11 and 12. The Italian Series is scheduled for August 8 to 23. The IBL2 has been eliminated. However each IBL team has to host a U21 team during the year.
