Germany’s starting pitcher Manuel MOELLER threw a no-hitter against Austria in his first outing at the Eurobaseball 2007. MOELLER who is playing for the Mainz Athletics in the German Bundesliga dominated Austria while throwing only 90 pitches in 7 Innings and facing the minimum number of batters with 21. The only Austrian baserunner was a leadoff walk in the very first Inning by Outfielder Joachim FRICK, who was erased by a double play.
The first couple of Innings both offenses were pretty quiet with no one scoring any runs. In the third inning Germany started their offense machine with Sascha LUTZ hitting a double and WULF homering to centerfield.
In the 4th inning Germany extended its lead to 7-0 with another two homeruns by LF Kai GRONAUER and RF Robert GRUBER.
Pinch Hitter Klaus Hopfensperger from the Regensburg Legionaere hit the fourth homerun of the day in the 5th Inning
German Hedcoach Greg Frady made some substitutions in the 6th Inning and Möller continued his dominance until the end. Pinch hitter Jendrick SPEER (Paderborn Untouchables) scored Germany’s final run when Jens HEMYER reached on an error with the bases loaded and one out.
If Germany beats Croatia tomorrow they will have qualified for the final round starting on Friday and Austria will play the Czech Republic. Austria still has the opportunity to play a successful tournament as they will face Croatia and Sweden on the final days of the first round.
