France became the first Women’s Baseball European Champion on Saturday, defeating the Netherlands 5-2 in the final. The inaugural Women’s Baseball European Championship was played from Wednesday to Saturday in Rouen, France with three teams: France, Netherlands and Czech Republic.
France went undefeated in the tournament led by MVP Marjorie Brunel, Best Batter Raina Hunter and Best Pitcher Camille Foucher. In the final on Saturday Brunel and Melissa Mayeux had two hits apiece to lead France. Foucher pitched five strong innings for the win. Loes Asmus got charged with the loss.
France is now qualified for next year’s Women’s Baseball World Cup. The Netherlands have represented European Baseball at previous Women’s Baseball World Cups.
