Beograd 96 – Vienna Metrostars 3-15
The Vienna Metrostars kept their finals chances alive, defeating Beograd 96 15-3 in seven innings to kick off day four at the European Cup Qualifier in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. The Austrian champion scored in seven of the nine innings and blew things wide open with a six-run ninth. Dominik Loeffler and Christoph Bernacki hit homeruns. Stefan Ludescher received the win. Ricardo Villegas took the loss.
Spartakos Glyfadas – Atletico Alexandria 2-14 (7)
Atletico Alexandria dispatched Spartakos Glyfadas 14-2 in seven innings for their first win in the tournament. Except for the third the Romanian team scored in each of the seven frames. Shortstop Catalin Gavrila hit a three-run inside the park homerun and drove in four overall. Catalin Lazar pitched five innings for the win. David Johnson was handed the loss.
Bern Cardinals – Buffaloes Blagoevgrad 2-3
The Buffaloes Blagoevgrad won the duel between undefeated teams against the Bern Cardinals by a score of 3-2. With the victory the hosts already secured a spot in the finals on Saturday and own a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three series. They will either meet with Bern or Vienna. On Thursday a RBI single by Nedelchev in the top of the ninth broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Buffaloes the victory. Evgenii Chernozemsky picked up the win with eight strikeouts in eight innings. John Baum suffered the complete game loss.
