European Cup in Rotterdam, Day 5, June 3
Danesi Nettuno – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 8-1
Danesi Nettuno won their fourth game in five days to qualify for the European Champions Cup Final Four. They defeated the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 8-1 on Sunday, got on the bus and drove all the way back to Italy. According to reports from Rotterdam Nettuno is ready to host the Final Four tournament, which has no site as of now. In their final game Danesi needed until the fourth inning to break 20-year-old Jonathan Eisenhuth with three runs en route to the win. Five runs in the eighth blew the game open. Giuseppe Mazzanti went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Ricardo Hernandez and Yovany D’Amico kept the German champion in check. D’Amico dominated with four scoreless innings of no-hit relief. Eisenhuth threw a whopping, if not irresponsible 155 pitches in 7 2/3 innings, allowing ten hits, seven runs and eight walks.
Rouen Huskies – Technika Brno 12-0 (7)
After driving back and forth through the Netherlands on Sunday due to find a playable field, the Rouen Huskies scored eight runs in the first two frames of a 12-0 shutout over Technika Brno. The French champion booked a ticket for the Final Four for the first time in European Baseball history. Owen Ozanich and Joris Bert combined in a five-hitter in the blowout. Bert and Maxime Lefevre had five of the nine RBI. Luc Piquet scored three times. Michal Koci was charged with the loss.
CB Barcelona – DOOR Neptunus 1-5
DOOR Neptunus concluded the European Cup in their ballpark with a 5-1 win over Baseball Barcelona on Sunday. Shaldimar Daantji scored twice, while Dwayne Kemp collected three hits to spark the offense. Tim Roodenburg captured the victory on the mound, giving up seven hits in seven innings. Jorge Balboa took the loss.
