The Dutch right-hander Mike Bolsenbroek was selected in the 42nd round of the MLB amateur draft by the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES organization. He was the only European player, who got selected. It is the third time in three years that Bolsenbroek got chosen by a Major League team. In 2006 (round 41) and 2007 (round 26), the CHICAGO WHITE SOX took him twice. However he did not sign a contract. We have to look, if he can reach an agreement this year. The deadline is going to be August 15.
Bolsenbroek is 21 years old and went to Santa Ana College. He signed with German Bundesliga club BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE REGENSBURG this season. He appeared in seven games (3 starts), going 2-0 with one save and an ERA of 1.13. He struck out 26 in 24 innings pitched so far. He walked eleven. According some reports he features a fastball of 96 MPH.
His team is playing the HAAR DISCIPLES on Sunday. From June 18 to June 22 the LEGIONAERE host the CEB Cup in Regensburg. Bolsenbroek should see extended playing time against some of the best batters of Europe in the tournament.
