Great Britain – Ukraine 2-0
Great Britain has won the B-Level European Championship in Zurich, Switzerland and qualifies for the 2014 European Championship in the Czech Republic. The British squad won the championship game at the Heerenschuerli on Saturday by a score of 2-0 against the Ukraine.
Ian Young and Ryan Trask drove in both runs with singles in the bottom of the second. Otherwise it was a pitcher’s duel. Greg Hendrix won it, allowing just five hits and a walk in nine scoreless innings. He struck out 13 for his second win in the week.
Kostantyn Korolov had received the starting nod for the Ukraine. He issued two runs on seven hits in seven innings to take the loss. Dmytro Limarenko closed it out. Artem Borshch had two of the five Ukrainian hits.
After the completion of the game, the Technical Commission of the Confederation of European Baseball awarded Greg Hendrix with the MVP trophy. Ian Young was named best batter, Daniel Levine (Switzerland) best pitcher.
