The Congress of the European Softball Federation (ESF), which has been held as a joint Congress with the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) in Bled, Slovenia this weekend, is in the books. The most important part of the gathering on Saturday morning was the election for the Executive Committee.
André van Overbeek from the Netherlands remains ESF President, winning with 17 votes against the Italian Totoni Sanna (11 votes). The other candidates Michael Jennings (GBR), Sahin Kömurcü (TUR), Jacques Reinenbergh (BEL) and Viatcheslav Smagin (RUS) withdrew before the voting according to a first report published on FIBS.it.
New Secretary General is Ami Baran from Israel, who received 22 votes as the only candidate. Former Secretary General Francesca Fabretto, who has been driving the ESF in the last couple of years, withdrew from the election following the outcome of the President’s voting. The third candidate Metin Ejder (TUR) also withdrew.
Eddy van Straelen (BEL) is the new treasurer, being elected unanimously. Michael Jennings (GBR) and Mustafa Keles (TUR) had withdrawn their candidacy before the vote. New vice presidents are Gabriel Waage (CZE, 25 votes), Youry Alkalay (BUL, 25 votes), Dejan Jesic (SRB, 24 votes), John Austin (IRE, 23 votes), Mette Niessen-Jakobson (DNK, 22 votes) and Gilbert Tobback (BEL, 18 votes). Four candidates with Totoni Sanna (ITA), Jürgen Elsishans (GER), Kristian Pälviä (SWE) and Michael Schmidt (AUT) withdrew prior to the vice president elections. Viatcheslav Smagin (RUS, 17 votes) fell short in the voting.
