The Canberra Cavalry won its second straight four-game series against the Perth Heat. On Sunday the Australian Baseball League leader shut out the defending champion 9-0 for its 22nd win of the season. Diamondblack John Holdzkom issued just two hits and three walks in seven scoreless innings for the win. Adam Buschini and Jeremy Barnes combined for five hits, two homeruns, five runs and five RBI to spark the Cavalry offense. Scott Mitchinson surrendered two hits, two runs and two bb in two innings to take the loss. Perth now has lost seven of its last ten games.
The other two games on the last day of the week were much more thrilling. The Melbourne Aces celebrated a 5-4 walk-off win over the Brisbane Bandits. Justin Huber got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th frame to force in the winning run. Brad Harman got walked intentionally to load the bases prior to the decisive plate appearance. A sac fly by James Beresford had tied the game earlier in the inning. Brad Dutton had given Brisbane the lead in the top half, scoring on a wild pitch. In the top of the ninth the Bandits had forced extra innings, scoring twice on a ground out and a single. Elliot Biddle drove in three runs for Melbourne. Mitch Hodge got the win, Nathan Crawford the loss.
The Adelaide Bite also won in extra innings. They downed the Sydney Blue Sox 7-6 in the tenth. Stefan Welch gave Adelaide the win with a walk-off RBI single with no outs in the first extra inning. A RBI single by Nathan Melendres had tied the game in the seventh. Ben Lodge homered for the Bite. Richard Olson struck out five in three two-hit innings of relief for the win. Dae-Sung Koo was charged with the loss.
