Jurrjens gets plenty of Run Support, Berglund signs with Marlins

Posted on August 20, 2009August 20, 2009 by philipp

Jair Jurrjens (W 10-8), not really blessed with run support this season, received plenty of it on Tuesday. The Braves handed him an 8-0 lead with a big second inning en route to a lopsided 15-2 victory against the Mets at Citi Field, New York. Jurrjens went six innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and one walk, while striking out four. 60 of his 96 pitches were strikes. His ERA stands at 2.99 this year.

This news came into our inbox this morning from the Swedish Baseball and Softball Federation:

BRYAN BERGLUND SIGNS WITH MARLINS

– First Swedish-born to sign a contract with MLB club

The second round draft pick, Bryan Berglund (#66) has signed a contract with the Florida Marlins and will report to Gulf Coast League immediately.

Berglund received a USD 572 500 signing bonus after passing a physical with the Marlins staff last weekend.

– The Marlins have a solid reputation for developing their young players. The ability to develop here and take the step to the MLB are good, says Bryan Berglund in a press release to the Swedish media.

The Swedish media has covered both the MLB Draft and the signing of Bryan Berglund in a positive way and that has naturally given Swedish Baseball a major PR boost before the hosting of the 2009 Baseball World Cup in Sweden.
