Defending Italian Baseball League champion SAN MARINO has evened the best-of-seven championship series against FORTITUDO. They won 3-1 on Saturday evening and could win the title again in front of their home crowd, as the Italian Series moves to San Marino for games three to five from Monday to Wednesday.
FORTITUDO took a fast 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a solo homerun by Claudio Liverziani. But T&A came right back, even the score in the third on a RBI double by Martin Vasquez. They broke the tie in the seventh on a RBI double by Ulrich Snijders and added an insurance run on a RBI single by Simon Albanese one period later. BOLOGNA went down 1-2-3 in the ninth and the Italian Series is as close as usual.
Tiago da Silva (W 1-0) picked up the win after 6 2/3 solid innings. He allowed just one run on four hits and a walk, striking out five. Mauro Schiavoni closed it out for the save. Yulman Ribeiro (L 0-1) issued five hits, two runs and two bb in six-plus innings. He sent six batters back to the dugout with a strikeout.
