PARMA avoided a sweep in the Italian Baseball League playoffs with a 6-3 win over RIMINI on Saturday. They are now 2-4 with three games to go. TELEMARKET sits atop the standings with a 4-2 record. Leonardo Zileri and Davide Dallospedale scored two runs apiece from the first two spots of the batting order, initiating the CARIAPARMA offense. Laidel Chapelli collected two RBI. The PIRATES threatened to come back in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a run on an error and loading the bases with one out. But Eddie Rios fouled and Ivanon Coffie grounded out to end the game. Marco Grifantini went 5 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, two runs and five bb, striking out six. Chris Di Roma won the strikeout duel 7-6, but lost the game. He conceded six hits, five runs (4 ER) and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

BOLOGNA defeated SAN MARINO 7-6 in eleven innings to improve to 3-3 in the semi-final standings. After both teams scored four times in the first nine frames, the outcome was decided in extra innings. With the tie breaker rule in effect (runners on second and one out), SAN MARINO struck first taking a 6-4 lead in the top of the eleventh on a two-run double by Martin Vasquez. But it was not enough. FORTITUDO answered with a two-run single by Richard Austin to even the score. Moments later Claudio Liverziani scored the decisive run on a walk-off RBI single by Matt Stocco. Francesco Imperiali hit a solo homerun for T&A earlier in the game. Yulman Ribeiro (BOL) surrendered five hits, three runs and three bb in 4 2/3 innings. Tiago Da Silva (SMA) conceded nine hits, four runs (3 ER) and two walks in seven innings. He struck out seven. Fabio Milano picked up the win, Mauro Schiavoni took the loss.
