Dutch offense tallies 20 hits in 15-5 win over Germany

Posted on November 9, 2007November 9, 2007 by philipp

The Dutch team wasted no time to destroy the German pitching staff. They scored ten runs in the first three frames on their way to a 15-5 win. It is the second victory for the Netherlands and the third loss for their European neighbours.

Germany got off to a fine start, as they took a lead for the first time at the World Cup of Baseball. But their fans did not celebrate for long. The Netherlands came back with two homeruns by Dirk VAN’T KLOOSTER (3-5, 5 RBI) and Tjerk SMETS (3-5) to build up a 5-1 advantage after the first period. They added five more till the end of the third and led 10-3 after that. Another five runs in the seventh and eighth ended the duel earlier.

Sharnol ADRIANA got three hits and three RBI. Raylinoe LEGITO drove in two.

Simon GUEHRING and Dominik WULF had two RBI each for the Germans. Jens HEYMER hit a solo-homerun in the seventh.

Diegomar MARKWELL started for the Netherlands. He allowed seven hits, four runs and five walks in 5 1/3 innings. Nick STUIFBERGEN and Dorotheus DRAJIER relieved him.

Starting pitcher Andre HUGHES (L 0-1) lasted just 1 2/3 innings. He gave up eight hits, eight runs and two base on balls. Markus WINKLER and Philipp HOFFSCHILD followed him on the mound.
