In the make-up game of Tuesday’s rainout Cuba and Taiwan had to settle for a tie at the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam. Before the start of the match the teams had to agree that the game would not have a winner, if the score is tied after nine innings. Chih-Hsiang Lin put Taiwan up in front, scoring on a throwing error by pitcher Maikel Folch. Cuba came back and evened the score with a RBI single by Yoelvis Fiss in the sixth. Folch allowed just one unearned run on four hits and a walk in seven innings. Wen-Yang Liao started on the opposing side and conceded three hits and a bb in four scoreless innings.
Taiwan – Cuba 4-5

In the second game on Thursday at the Familie Stadium, Cuba had to rally for three runs in the eighth to beat Taiwan 5-4. Eriel Sanchez tied the contest with a two-run double and later scored the winning run on a single by Giorvis Duvergel. Taiwan had taken a two-run lead on a two-run single by Chung-Chun Wu one frame earlier. Yu-Ching Lin had silenced the Cuban bats for the first four periods, giving up just two hits. Freddy Asiel Alvarez surrendered six hits, four runs and five bb in 6 1/3 innings. Miguel La Hera picked up the win, Yen-Feng Lin took the loss.
Netherlands – Taiwan 4-3

The Netherlands won its third straight game in the tournament on Thursday evening. Sidney de Jong became hero, plating the winning run Eugene Kingsale in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off RBI single. Vince Rooi had tied the game with a RBI single moments later. Japan led since a two-run double by Ken Hinomoto in the seventh. David Bergman (NED) got the start and allowed three hits, three runs (1 ER) and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. Ryota Takayama (JPN) issued five hits and two bb in five scoreless innings. Michiel van Kampen received the win, Syogo Suenaga the loss. With the victory the Dutch team now is in a position to reach the finals on Sunday. Two days of preliminary round are left.
