Trophy of the IBAF Baseball World CupThe Baseball World Cup which will be awarded in Rome (Nettuno) on September 27th, is exposed, from today, in the Scuola della Guardia di Finanza of L’Aquila, where the G8 summit will take place. The Italian Civil Protection Department has accepted enthusiastically the joint proposal of the International Baseball Federation and of the Italian Baseball Softball Federation, sanctioning the artistic value of the trophy, but, above all, the positive message of the Cup as a symbol.

The final round of the 2009 Baseball World Cup will be hosted in 16 Italian towns, and Chieti is one of them, to testify to the World the will of rising of the Abruzzo region after the terrible earthquake, also through a sport event of this high international level.

The running World Champion Team is the United States, who defeated Cuba in 2007 after a exciting game ended with the result of 6 to 3. A game, as it is easy to imagine, full of huge political and diplomatic meanings, even more today, in this phase of slow ‘thaw’ of the relationship between the two Countries.

The presence of the Baseball World Cup at the G8 represents the intent to ratify sports, baseball in this case, as a powerful tool for dialogue, and a wish that the diplomatic relationships could imitate the example of sport of an open and loyal confrontation between the Nations.
