Posted on June 16, 2009 by philipp

Sundbyberg Heat – Tranås 2-3, 9-6

TRANAS defended first place in the Swedish Elitserien with a split against SUNDBYBERG last weekend. In game one Eimantes Zickus (W 4-0) allowed just two runs on six hits and four walks in a complete game victory to lead the surprise leader to a 3-2 win. They scored the decisive run in the top of the seventh, a half inning after the HEAT had tied the game. Matt Merrifield went two-for-four with a triple and two runs scored. Nick Soubiea (L 1-1) issued ten hits, three runs and two bb in eight innings for the loss.

In the second part of the twin bill, SUNDBYBERG scored four runs each in the seventh and the eighth in a 9-6 victory, erasing a 1-5 deficit with the rallies. Grant Irving went three-for-three with two walks, a triple, two doubles and four RBI to lead the HEAT offense. He also pitched three innings in relief to pick up his second win of the season. David Leander drove in two for TRANAS. Adeyinka Adewusi scored three times. Carl Sjölin (SUN) gave up six hits, five runs and six bb in four-plus innings. Cameron Penney (TRA) held SUNDBYBERG in check, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks in six innings. But relievers Mikael Andersson (BS 1) and Leander (L 2-1) blew the lead.

Gefle – Leksand Lumberjacks 2-14 (8), 5-3

After the LUMBERJACKS crushed last-ranked GEFLE 14-2 in eight innings in game one of their doubleheader, GEFLE came back in the second match, celebrating a 5-3 win. It was their first victory of the season.

The twin bill between RÄTTVIK and GOTEBORG was postponed due to rain. The Elitserien resumes play with a make-up game on Wednesday June 17 between SUNDBYBERG and STOCKHOLM. The two weeks afterwards are off, as the Swedish National Team participates in the Prague Baseball Week from June 23 to 27.
