FORTITUDO opened week ten in the Italian Baseball League with a 7-3 victory over SAN MARINO. The reigning champion actually had the better start, taking a 3-0 lead in the first thanks to a RBI double by Martin Vasquez and a two-run homerun by Ardley Jansen. But it was the last time they would add runs to the scoreboard. The offense of BOLOGNA woke up in the fourth. Giovanni Pantaleoni initiated the five-run rally with a solo homerun. Matthew Stocco and Daniele Frignani followed with two-run shots to make it 5-3.
Two frames later Frignani again stepped to the plate and drove in two to built up a four-run lead. Jesus Matos settled in after the rough opening frame and struck out eight in seven innings for the win. He gave up three runs on six hits and two walks. Victor Moreno finished the job, striking out the side in each of the last two periods. Horacio Estrada took the loss, allowing nine hits, seven runs and a bb in 5 1/3 innings.
