RIMINI scored four runs in the first two frames en route to a 4-2 win over BOLOGNA, taking game one in a duel between the two first-ranked clubs in the Italian Baseball League. Mario Chiarini opened the scoring with a RBI double in the first. FORTITUDO came back and tied the contest on Stefano Landuzzi’s RBI single in the second. But the PIRATES regained the lead in the bottom of the frame and held on to it. Lorenzo Avagnina, Danny Gonzalez and Chiarini put them back in front with two RBI doubles and a RBI single.
BOLOGNA threatened in the ninth for a last time, but only was able to cut the deficit in a half on a sac fly by Matt Stocco. Giovanni Pantaleoni struck out with a runner on third to end the game. Rafael Garcia allowed one unearned run on nine hits and three walks in seven innings for the win. Jesus Matos lasted five innings, giving up seven hits, four runs and four bb. Victor Moreno (BOL) struck out seven in three innings of relief.
Cariparma Parma – De Angelis Godo 5-0

Ricky Palma allowed just three hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings to lead PARMA to a 5-0 shutout against GODO. Oscar Lira completed the three-hitter later on. CARIPARMA got in front in the fourth thanks to a three-run shot by Riccardo Bertagnon. Two frames later they added two insurance runs on an error and a sac fly by Laidel Chapelli. Emmanuel Ulloa took the loss, being charged with nine hits, five runs (3 ER) and a bb in eight innings.
