World Cup participants test on different sites

Posted on October 9, 2007 by philipp

Today should be the kick off to the first Latin American and Caribbean League in Valencia (Venezuela), where some of the best teams of the region will face each other. There will be also two teams from the upcoming World Cup of Baseball. Host Venezuela and Cuba will send teams to the tournament to test against squads from Puerto Rico, Brazil, Columbia and Nicaragua. The Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama (both are also in the World Cup in Taipei next month) were also invited, but declined to participate. The start of this new event is now delayed since October third, but should begin today.

On October 20 the Cuban team will travel to Sicily to face the Italian squad for several test games in preparation for the World Cup. Contacts between the two countries were established due new Italian Manager Marco MAZZIERI. Some of the players on the roster started already a training camp in Tirrenia, before the full team will begin training camp next Friday in Sicily.

The German team are currently playing intra-squad matches in preparation for the Cup. There were and will be doubleheader in Mainz (Oct. 6), Mannheim (Oct. 13) and Dortmund (Oct. 20).

Team USA will test against the six Arizona Fall League teams, beginning October 25.
