Cards look to remain undefeated as Eagles come to Bern
On paper, the Bern Cardinals(7-0) should move their record to 9-0 when the Eagles(1-5) come to Bern on Sunday at the Allmend. The Cardinals are leading the league in runs per game, and runs allowed per game. Johnny Perigos is beginning to swing a hot bat. After a slow start, he has left the yard in three of the last four games. Chris Beyeler and Tobias Imboden are providing the Cardinals with outstanding starting pitching thus far. The Eagles won their first game of the year last weekend, but will have a hard time adding to that this weekend.
Flyers try to avenge last season’s surprise loss in the semis to the Indians
The Therwil Flyers(5-1), coming off an impressive sweep of the Challengers last weekend, hope to continue their winning ways as the Lausanne Indians(4-3) come to town. In what has become the norm for the Indians, can Jaquemet keep the potent Flyer offense from doing too much damage, and can the Indians outhit their opponent? Sloppy defense last week cost the Indians several runs against the Cards, if it happens again this week, chalk up two wins for the Flyers. The boys from Therwil will try to keep the Cards as close as they can, and two wins this week would be huge.
Zurich derby to be played in Hunenberg
The Challengers are coming off two losses at the hands of the Flyers, and have the added pressure of playing their in-town rival. The Barracudas have stumbled out of the gate, and are in danger of finding themselves in a hole they may not be able to dig out of. The Challengers are a favorite to get one of the four playoff spots, but two losses this weekend could prove costly. The ‘Cudas have to be feeling the pressure of starting so poorly. These two games could be a determining factor to the ‘Cudas season.
Embrach looking to jump over .500 this weekend
The Frogs gave up 19 runs to the Eagles last weekend. This could be just what the doctor ordered for the thus far struggling offense of the ‘Bows. Embrach, who is currently sitting tied for fourth place with the Challengers, needs to show they can beat the teams it is supposed to. If they plan to make the playoffs, they have to take care of business against the bottom half of the league. The Frogs early season troubles need to be resolved soon, or the season will quickly slip away from them.
