No Games played in Spain, still two Wins for Tenerife Marlins

Posted on April 12, 2009 by philipp

We all expected a thrilling two-game series between the TENERIFE MARLINS and the FC BARCELONA on the Canary Island this weekend. However BARCA wasn’t able to purchase plane tickets for the flight to Tenerife  and the make-up games of the third game day had to be postponed. The Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation (RFEBS) then decided that PUERTO CRUZ gets awarded with two 9-0 victories.

The RFEBS says that BARCELONA had enough time to plan the trip, as the date of the matchup was known well in advance. It is not only that we missed out on a great duel, but also this incident could decide the outcome of the championship in the Division de Honor because of the format without playoffs. It is expected that the FCB appeals the ruling by the federation, so the last word might not have been spoken yet.

We’re still awaiting word from Barcelona and will update on the situation in the next couple of days.
