French Division I Baseball, Week 10: New Top 3 in Pool A as Savigny Rewrites Standings

Posted on June 21, 2022July 4, 2022 by Gabriel Fidler

A pair of doubleheaders completely rewrote the Pool A standings in French baseball, with Savigny-sur-Orge moving into a tie for first place and claiming the best winning percentage in the division. Meanwhile, the Cougars de Montigny swept hapless PUC to earn a share of top spot in the standings. Only one series was played in Pool B, with Montpellier posting crooked numbers in both ends of its twinbill with Nice Cavigal.

Summary
The Lions moved atop the division in resounding fashion, squeaking out a 7-5 win in the opening game with defending champion Rouen, with Savigny running its winning streak to six as the clubs nearly duplicated the Game 1 score in a 7-4 victory in the nightcap. The Huskies have lost three consecutive games. Montigny continued to show that it is a title contender with 10-0 and 3-1 victories and is the first Pool A club to reach double digit wins.

The Barracudas moved even with the La Rochelle Boucaniers in Pool B with an 11-5, 18-3 sweep of Nice, which has gradually upped its offensive output, but still averages only 2.2 runs per game. MUC boasts French baseball’s top offense, with its 29 runs over the DH upping its average output to eight runs per game exactly. Montpellier and La Rochelle stand one game behind the Sénart Templiers, which were scheduled for the weekend off.
