eurocup09_nettunoThe BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE stopped the run by ROUEN for now, surprising the French club with a 5-4 win in a thrilling game. It was their second victory in four games and they still have a chance to reach the final four with a match against L&D AMSTERDAM open on Saturday. The HUSKIES will face DANESI NETTUNO.

The game on Friday was decided in the eighth inning. ROUEN, which trailed 0-3 going into the next to last frame, came back thanks to two two-run singles by David Gauthier and Luc Piquet, taking a 4-3 lead. But REGENSBURG had the right answer to the rally.

Philipp Howard walked leading off the bottom of the period and moved to second with one out on a balk. Ludwig Glaser drove him in with a single to tie the game. Glaser, who moved to second on the throw to home, scored the game-winning run on a double by Klaus Hopfensperger moments later.

The HUSKIES had no chance in the ninth against 16-year-old closer Jonathan Eisenhuth (S 1), who sat down Quentin Becquey, Olivier Israel and Joris Bert in order to seal the victory. It was already the third appearance by the talented right-hander and probably the most important.

Before Eisenhuth took the mound, Scott Lonergan (W 1-0) held the ROUEN offense in check, striking out eleven batters in eight innings. He allowed nine hits, four runs (3 ER) and two walks. On the other side, Nicolas Dubaut (L 0-1) took the loss, giving up six hits, five runs (4 ER) and three bb in eight innings.
