Croatian League Week 6: Three-Game Winning Streak for Split Moves Club to .500

Posted on May 23, 2021May 26, 2021 by Gabriel Fidler

Split may have had to wait six weeks for its home opener, but it was worth it as the Hope (“Nada”)earned a ‘W’ on both and Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, results were not reported from Zagreb, where the capital city club was hosting league-leading Karlovac.

Vindija Varaždin at Nada Split (2-12, 5-6)
Split opened the year by playing four series on the road and had yet to really get going, though last week’s 9-7 win at Karlovac proved the club can play. Returning home was just what Nada needed, blasting Vindija in Game One, 12-2, before a tough—and slightly sloppy—second game resulted in a thrilling 6-5 victory. The sweep was Split’s first of the year and pushed the club to a 5-5 record. Varaždin had temporarily moved into a tie for second, but stumbled to fourth with the loss.

Olimpija Karlovac at Zagreb (not reported)
No results are available from either club, with Zagreb hoping to end a three-game losing streak against visiting Olimpija. Karlovac has lost only twice in the Croatian Baseball League in 2021, though one of the defeats was a surprise 11-9 win by Zagreb in Week 2. The second game of that series saw Karlovac mercy rule Zagreb, 13-2.
