eurocup09_nettunoAfter a rocky start NETTUNO defeated the MARLINS easily by a score of 12-2 in seven innings. TENERIFE had the better start, taking a 2-0 lead after three innings, but after DANESI tied the contest until the end of the fourth, they decided the outcome through a grand slam by Andrea Castri in the fifth. One frame later they blew the game wide open, putting six more runs on the board to seal the win.

Ramon Tavarez had two doubles and four RBI for NETTUNO. Besides him and Castri, Igor Schiavetti, Ennio Retrosi and Giuseppe Mazzanti also scored twice. Lester Galvan drove in both runs for PUERTO CRUZ.

Remigio Leal (W 1-0), who already made his second appearance on the mound this week, got the start for the Italian vice champion. He gave up five hits, two runs and a walk in six innings, striking out five. On the opposing side, Aitcken Galvan (L 0-1) fell apart at the end of his 5 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits, twelve runs (9 ER) and nine walks, striking out one.

It was already the second game for the MARLINS, having beaten REGENSBURG in the morning. They are now 1-2 with two games to play. DANESI (2-0) is going to play L&D AMSTERDAM (1-1) in the evening.

After fine-tuning his pitches in South Africa during the winter, Philipp Hoffschild (W 1-0) led REGENSBURG with a complete game to a 7-1 victory over the PORT OF ANTWERP GREYS in his first outing on European soil this year. He threw 143 pitches during the nine innings and gave up just one run on nine hits and three walks, striking out twelve.

The offense provided him with a fast 2-0 lead after three innings, before blowing the close game wide open with four runs in the eighth. The former Minor League prospects Ludwig Glaser and Rodney Gessmann led the team with two RBI each. Matt Vance went three-for-five with a triple, a run scored and a RBI. Christopher Howard scored twice.

The GREYS certainly had their opportunities with runners on base, but failed to convert these, leaving ten men stranded. David Herssens got three this, Gert Rosiers and Nick Vanthillo each two. The latter also drove in the lone run with a RBI single in the fourth. Adam Crabb (L 0-1) debuted in an official game, inducing eleven hits, seven runs (6 ER) and a walk in eight innings.

For both teams the match was the second of the day. The BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE (1-2) lost 5-8 to the MARLINS in the morning. MERKSEM (0-3) was beaten by ROUEN in eleven innings.
