Homer Baez, FC Barcelona vs. El Llano

The two Spanish European Cup participants TENERIFE MARLINS and the FC BARCELONA departed with three and a half victories to Italy. However the surprising news reaches us from VIGO, where HALCONES shut out CB SANT BOI 1-0 on Saturday. The favorite came back one day later and crushed the promoted club 16-6.

Last year’s champion from Puerto Cruz celebrated blowouts against CD PAMPLONA behind three homeruns by Richard Montiel, who had seven RBI combined in the doubleheader. Shortstop Nestor Perez scored five times on Saturday. Leslie Nacar (W 3-0) struck out ten in five innings in game one, as the MARLINS didn’t abuse their hurlers in preparation for five games in five days from Tuesday to Saturday.

The FC BARCELONA defeated EL LLANO 9-0 in game one and already led 4-0 in the second, when the match was suspended due to rain. Homer Baez (W 3-0, picture) gave up one hit and five walks in seven innings, striking out six. After throwing 21 innings on the first two weekends of the season, he was rested for Matino this time. Jason Friedman made his Spanish debut on the mound and closed it out with two one-hit innings of relief. Jehan Machado led the offense with four hits.

In other games SAN INAZIO BILBAO took home its first two victories of the season, beating BASEBALL NAVARRA in Amaya. CB VILADECANS won one match at VALENCIA, the second was rained out.
