Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 2019 German Baseball Champion

Posted on August 5, 2019August 4, 2019 by philipp

The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe have won the 2019 championship in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. After winning the CEB Cup in June in Brno they have won the double. In the German Finals they edged out defending champion Bonn Capitals 3-1 in the best-of-five final series. In game four on Sunday they scored three runs in the top of the eighth thanks to RBI singles by Gary Owens and Shawn Larry to turn a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 lead en route to a 3-2 win.

On Saturday they had prevailed 7-2 due to strong pitching by Mike Bolsenbroek and a couple of home runs. Both teams met in the final for a third consecutive year. Last year Bonn prevailed in five games, in 2017 Heidenheim. For the Heidekoepfe it was their fourth German Baseball Championship in team history, all since 2009.
