The German Baseball-Bundesliga opened the 2019 season this past weekend with its first game day. In the north defending champion Bonn Capitals had to settle for a split with the Hamburg Stealers. Meanwhile the Solingen Alligators and Untouchables Paderborn dominated their opponents in easy two-game sweeps. Additionally, the Cologne Cardinals stunned the Dohren Wild Farmers with a 15-8 slugfest with game two being suspended due to darkness after five innings.
In the south the Mainz Athletics edged out the Buchbinder Legionäre Regensburg 3-2 and 4-3 in a pair of close games. The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe and Mannheim Tornados had to settle for splits against the Stuttgart Reds and IT sure Falcons Ulm. The Munich-Haar Disciples pummeled the Saarlouis Hornets with two high-scoring results.
