Posted on March 23, 2019 by philipp

Former New York Yankees player and coach Luis Sojo is the new manager of the Spanish National Team. The Venezuelan is succeeding Paco Figueroa at the helm. He will be supported on the coaching staff by Nestor Perez, Renny Duarte, Manu Olivera, Felix Cano and Candelario Diaz.

Sojo played from 1990 to 2003 in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays, California Angels, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates. He later also joined the coaching staff of the Yankees and worked as minor league infield coordinator in the organization. With the Yankees he won four World Series titles.

Additionally he was Venezuela’s manager in the 2006, 2009 and 2013 editions of the World Baseball Classic.

    Looking at Europe to see:-
    a) Hoping to see the Czech Republic,Germany,France and Spain continue their progress
    b) Hope to see the seeds of the development of a European Major League with an East and West division .If Australia can do it,why not Europe.
    c) Hope that Great Britain can get some funding from somewhere so as to create a stable National league that includes the North.
    d) That Baseball UK look for a national centre and home field/stadium to be in the Birmingham area, so that Northern supporters and players don’t have to keep travelling to the south to watch and play in International games.
