The German Baseball-Bundesliga opened the 2018 season on Easter weekend. In the northern division the Bonn Capitals celebrated a pair of wins over the Dohren Wild Farmers. The promoted Berlin Flamingos and Bremen Dockers captured splits in their first doubleheaders against the Solingen Alligators and Untouchables Paderborn. The twin-bill between the Cologne Cardinals and Hamburg Stealers got postponed.
In the south another promoted club, the Ulm Falcons, settled for the split against the Saarlouis Hornets. In game two Jake Levin hit a pair of home runs and pitched strongly to pace the Hornets to the win, avoiding the sweep. Meanwhile Mike Bolsenbroek struck out 13 in game one of Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg’s two wins over the Stuttgart Reds. The Mainz Athletics and Mannheim Tornados shared wins. Defending champion Heidenheim Heidekoepfe cruised to a opening day win over the Munich-Haar Disciples.
