Day two of the Australian Baseball League on Friday featured a full schedule for the first time this year. The Brisbane Bandits improved to 2-0 with a 5-4 victory over the Canberra Cavalry. Canberra had a 4-0 lead midway through the second, but Brisbane scored five unanswered runs to seal the comeback win. TJ Bennett homered for the Bandits, Connor Panas and Kyle Perkins went deep for the Cavalry. Travis Blackley struck out eight in five innings in a no-decision.
The other two games on Friday ended in blowouts. The Sydney Blue Sox scored in each of the first eight innings to beat the Adelaide Bite 10-1. Chih-Hsieng Chiang, Michael Suchy and Connor MacDonald hit home runs for the Blue Sox. Rodrigo Ayarza accounted for the lone Adelaide run with a solo shot. Trevor Foss was otherwise nearly unhittable for Sydney on the mound, conceding only one run on two hits in six innings, while striking out seven.
Luke Hughes and Zacrey Law combined for four home runs and seven RBI in a 9-1 win by the Perth Heat over the Melbourne Aces. Hughes’ grand slam in the sixth blew the score open. Alex Boshers won the duel on the mound against Mark Hamburger. Both struck out nine in six innings, but Boshers issued only one run on five hits, while Hamburger allowed six on ten hits.
