The Olympic Baseball Stadium in Athens was sold to a local soccer club. The soccer club Ethnikos Piraeus will use this wonderful Baseball field as a soccer training ground in the future. The reconstruction work has already begun. The B Field of the Olympic Baseball event had already been closed a couple of years ago because of the same reason.
It is safe to say that European Baseball needs more political support!
Unfortunatelly this report is ablolutely true (I leave in Athens and I have seen them) and at the same time absolutelly frustrating. I’ am afraid however that there is more to it, showing that we are desperate in Greece for political support.
A few hundred mettres on the North of the Olympic fields, there are two more baseball fields created during the Olympic games as training grounds. These two fantastic fields (one of those has 500 seats) are not properly watered because the electricity has been cut off. Moreover the new plans for the creation of a park at the surrounding area do not inclued the fields, that they will be demolished if we do not do something.
You can see pictures (and read the whole story if you know Greek) of those fields here: http://brighttorch.blogspot.com/2007/09/baseball.html
That doesn’t sound very positive.
Have you or your federation contacted CEB-President Miller about this ?
I am sure he will do everything possible to help you guys
I send him an email one month ago but I didn’t get an answer. I will send a new mail tomorrow and I hope this time he will show more attention.
