After a pair of thrilling semifinal series the Bonn Capitals and Heidenheim Heidekoepfe have qualified for the best-of-five final series in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. For Bonn its their first final appearance since 1999. They never have won the title. Heidenheim won the championship in 2009 and 2015.

Bonn edged out the Munich-Haar Disciples 5-2 in game five on Sunday. The Capitals had won game three on Saturday 1-0 behind a ten-inning complete game two-hit shutout from Markus Solbach and a run scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch. Game four went in favor of the Disciples 3-0 thanks to a shutout by Ryan Bollinger.

Heidenheim scored 28 runs in game four and game five victories over the Mainz Athletics after dropping game three on Saturday 1-5. In game four they tied the contest with a 14-9 slugfest and then won the decisive fifth match 14-1. Mitch Nilsson and Gary Owens combined for four home runs and 15 RBI in Sunday’s victories.

The finals start next weekend in Heidenheim.
