The Netherlands defeated Germany 5-3 in a warm-up game for the World Port Tournament in Haarlem on Wednesday. At the ballpark of the second-division club Onze Gezellen about 400 people in attendance witnessed a close game between the reigning European Champion and last year’s number four.

Lukas Steinlein and Chris Goebel scored runs in the fifth inning to tie the game for Germany, but Gianison Boekhoudt connected for a two-run home run, as the Dutch team regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Clayton Freimuth, Jonathan Eisenhuth, Tim Stahlmann and Philipp Neuhäuser took the mound for Germany, while Lars Huijer, Kevin Heijstek, Mike Bolsenbroek, Jim Ploeger, Jerremyh Angela, Loek van Mil and Kaj Timmermans pitched for the Netherlands.

The Dutch team is going to play in the WPT starting on Saturday, while Germany is facing the Czech Republic in a three-game series in Heidenheim and Regensburg next week.
