The 2017 Women’s Softball European Championship started on Sunday with the first set of 22 games. 16 of the 22 games ended due to mercy rule. Ireland’s 8-7 win over Slovakia wasn’t decided until the 13th frame. Controversy surrounded the win by the Dutch team over Lithuania. The Netherlands won 16-0, but eventually the score will be 7-0, as officials informed the Dutch coaching staff that Lithuania used a number of players, which are under the age limit for the tournament. So far the score hasn’t been updated on the competition website, indicating that a final decision still needs to be made. The first round continues through Tuesday afternoon.
