Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam wins 2017 European Champions Cup

Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam has won the 2017 European Champions Cup in Regensburg. They defeated Unipol Bologna 7-3 in the final on Sunday evening. Bologna erased an 0-2 deficit from early in the game, but Curacao Neptunus broke the tie with a four-run seventh.

Christian Diaz had three hits and a key RBI in the seventh. Gianison Boekhoudt drove in two. Stijn van der Meer scored two runs. Jan Tomek picked up the win, but pitcher of the game was Berry van Driel, who struck out four in the last 2 2/3 innings surviving a late push by Fortitudo. Rudy Owens got charged with the loss.

Boekhoudt also was voted MVP of the tournament. Matteo Bocchi was named best pitcher, Paolino Ambrosino best batter.

Earlier in the day T&A San Marino defeated L&D Amsterdam to clinch third place. The Mainz Athletics beat the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in the relegation game. However already before it was decided that Germany is losing a spot in the European Champions Cup.
