Posted on April 5, 2017April 5, 2017 by philipp

Two European players received promotions this week, as Spring Training ends in the minors as well. Dutch shortstop Stijn van der Meer of the Houston Astros will start the new season in Buies Creek to play in High-A. Germany’s right-hander Sven Schüller of the Los Angeles Dodgers got promoted to Single-A.

Color me surprised in two ways. I was wondering if Schüller would end up dropped, and I wouldn’t have ever guessed van der Meer would jump clear over Full-A with less than two dozen minor league games under his belt.

From what I have seen from van der Meer, I thought the kid could really play. Surprisingly he seems to be back in the Netherlands. I wonder what happened there, I can’t believe he got released due to a lack in ability. He most have left the program out of his own will.
