Colombia evened its record in the first round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic with a 4-1 victory over Canada on Saturday afternoon at Marlins Park in Miami. Canada dropped to 0-2 and is in danger of needing to requalify for the next edition.
Canada had the better start and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a RBI single by Freddie Freeman. However Donovan Solano brought Colombia back into the game. In the third he tied the contest with a RBI single. Two innings later another RBI single got them the lead. A bases loaded walk by Jonathan Solano and a RBI single by Tito Polo in the sixth and the ninth sealed the win.
Julio Teheran issued only two hits, a run and a walk in five strong innings for the win. Ryan Kellogg got charged with the loss. Former MLB closer and former French national team manager Eric Gagne threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Maple Leafs.
