Dutch shortstop Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox has won a Silver Slugger Award from Louisville Sluggers as best offensive shortstop in the American League in 2016. He was one of three Red Sox to get honored together with the retiring DH David Ortiz and outfielder Mookie Betts.
Fellow Dutch shortstop Andrelton Simmons meanwhile got shut out from the Gold Glove Award by Rawlings, but for the third year in a row was a unanimous selection as best defensive shortstop in Major League Baseball by the Fielding Bible panel.
