Legnano won 10 straight games en route to the championship at the European Cup Winner’s Cup Women “A” Softball tournament held recently in Prague, Czech Republic. The Italians slipped past the Terrasvogels twice (1-0 and 3-2) in the playoffs to capture the title.
Other teams participating in the tourney included KRC Altron (Czech), London Monkeys (Great Britain), Superfund Wanderers (Austria), Hamburg Knights (Germany), Frameries Athletics (Belgium), Moskovia (Russia), and Antorcha (Spain).
Legnano (10-0) defeated the Terrasvogels (8-3) three times by a total of four runs. The reigning Dutch champions settled for the silver medal and were a perfect 8-0 against the rest of the tournament teams.
The host team, KRC Altron, won seven out of 10 games to secure the bronze medal. The Hamburg Knights (4th place), Moskovia (5th place), Superfund Wanderers (6th place), Antorcha (7th place), Frameries Athletics (8th place), and the London Monkeys (9th place) round out the final standings.
Sabina BORECKA of KRC Altron earned Best Hitter honors and Russian fireballer Daria SHEMBEREVA took home the Best Pitcher award. The Most Valuable Player of the tournament was Legnano’s Zhang Yan QUING.
Legnano wons the cup but that don’t mean they dominated the tournament!!!
At least not during the games we played against our Italiean friends.
