em-logo-2016The Netherlands overcame an early 1-3 deficit to beat Belgium 12-3. in the last game of the Winners Round Robin at the European Championship in Hoofddorp on Saturday evening. Four runs in the fifth turned the score around and the Red Hawks missed out on the upset. The Dutch national team already was qualified for the final prior to the game. Belgium finishes the tournament in sixth place.

For the Dutch team a pair of four-run innings in the fifth and seventh helped to win the contest against their neighbors. Christopher Garia and Yurendell De Caster led the way out of the first two spots in the lineup by going a combined 7-for-10 with two runs scored and six RBI. Stijn van der Meer scored three times. Thomas De Wolf drove in two runs for Belgium.

On the mound Orlando Yntema conceded four hits, three runs (2 ER) and five walks in six innings to pick up the win. Terrence Antonacci, who kept the Netherlands to one run in the first four innings, took the loss, issuing seven hits, five runs and two base on balls in four-plus frames.
